One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio unlike Motorola. I have it hooked up to a radio shack antenna antenna that says it can transmit on the 2m band, on which I'm currently transmitting. Could the men I'm talking to be using a repeater that's not allowing me to talk on it? I'm operating on 8 watts, and my antenna is quite a few feet off the roof of my 2 story house. I'm using RG-58 coaxial cable. I'm confused as to why it appears that other people cannot hear me, or that I cannot transmit. The original factory default software state got overwritten by chirp when you uploaded your frequencies. Go to the miklor website and find the link to the default state downloads. Get the one that corresponds to your radio per the miklor instructions and upload it via chirp. That should restore it. Then whenever you need to change your radio freq load, download from radio, make changes to that state only and upload it back to chirp. Try a yaesu FT-60, never had one of those that didn't work. I got rid of all the baofengs I had, over a couple of years of use around the ranch the ones I actually had with me every day seemed to develop some problems, guess it was just the environment they were in every day, heat, dust, vibration, and moisture. In a major grid-down situation in the nearly all radio transmitters, especially the big ones, will not be working. As such, it creates a 'quiet' environment for listening to the radio transmissions that are coming from elsewhere Asia, Europe, South America, etc.. This makes listening to low frequency transmissions from those places AM and shortwave radio much easier, especially at night when the sun isn't interfering. Again, it will transmit UHF just fine, but not VHF. It's not a microphone problem. have you tried it on simplex? that might help figure out if its a split or PL tone issue. I'd get a copy of chirp with a programming cable. It is possible within Chirp to disable VHF or UHF bands individually. We use the same radios at work and I disabled the UHF band so people couldn't transmit on those. If UHF is functioning on the radio, then I'd suspect a software type issue. this is what you have to do to fix it. Super simple Got a new Baofeng UV-5RE and I'm having the exact same problem. It will transmit in UHF fine, but not VHF. Extremely annoying.

Issues transmitting or not transmitting? I'm no Baofeng radio expert, but I am having a heck of a time transmitting. I reset the device, so it's all factory defaults, and I didn't use any software. I assume like any radio to transmit I simply press and hold the PTT button, some signal bars will pop up on screen and screen will light up. Well, mine fails to light up, nor does it pop up any indication that it's transmitting, it makes a single beep as I press the button. Is this thing broke, am I not doing it right?
